- Chemotherapy – Chemotherapy drugs are used to attack growing cancer cells, but they often attack other growing cells within your body, which includes your hair roots. This means that the hair on your scalp, eyebrows, and other areas will likely fall out. You should talk to your doctor or oncologist to find out how your chemotherapy drugs will affect your body. Most of the time, hair will grow back when treatment is finished.
- Alopecia – Alopecia, often called androgenic alopecia, is an autoimmune disease that causes hair loss in which cells in your immune system attack your hair follicles. Some people with alopecia will experience one episode of hair loss, while others may continue to go through cycles of hair loss and regrowth for their entire lives.
- Trauma or Stress – Hair loss from trauma or stress, or telogen effluvium, often occurs after stress, shock, or a traumatic event.
